Sierra Madre Wildfire

  • On Tuesday, April 29, 2008, most of the 1,000 residents that were evacuated because of the wildfire burning in the Seirra Madre foothills were allowed to return home and schools were scheduled to reopen.

    Weather patterns show a cooling trend moving into the area and it's expected to aid in helping firefighters fight the blaze that now encompasses 537 acres.

    On Monday, April 28, 2008, the wildfire burnt in the Sierra Madre foothills in California forcing more than 1,000 people to evacuate as the fire was being brought under control. No homes caught fire and only minor injuries were reported.

  • Fighting the Fire

    500-700 firefighters are helping fight the wildfire using water-dropping airplanes and helicopters. Favorable weather conditions, with low humidity and winds, are aiding in the effort.
  • Wedding Party Evacuated

    Ken and Julie Grady were married on Saturday, April 26, 2008, and were celebrating along with 50 guests. The wedding party had to be airlifted out Sunday afternoon. It took five trips in the helicopter to remove all of the stranded guests who were at the Chantry Flats ranger's station.
