Shrek is a 2001 feature film that went on to become the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature that same year. The story of Shrek the ogre parodies traditional fairy tales, including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and the more recent satirical fairy tale, The Princess Bride. The original Shrek film has a pop-soundtrack with music by The Proclaimers, The Baha Men, Joan Jett and Smash Mouth.
The success of the film led to the Shrek franchise, including sequels, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third , Shrek The Halls and a variety of Shrek Toys and video games.
Voices Behind Shrek
The film was critically acclaimed and enjoyed by both adults and children. The voice of Shrek, the ogre, was that of actor and comedian Mike Myers. Princess Fiona's voice was that of Cameron Diaz. Donkey's never-ceasing ramblings were provided by Eddie Murphy. Finally, the villain, Lord Farquaad's voice was provided by John Lithgow.
