Shrek the Third Reviews

  • Shrek the Third is the third installment in the popular computer animated DreamWorks series. Like the previous two films, Shrek the Third draws inspiration from classic fairy tales to continue the story of Shrek (Mike Myers) the ogre and his Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz).

When Shrek's frog-in-law, King Harold (John Cleese) croaks, Shrek is named as heir to the throne. Not eager to become king and apprehensive about becoming a new father, Shrek sets out on a journey, flanked by sidekicks Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) to find the other heir to the throne, Fiona's long lost cousin Prince Artie (Justin Timberlake).

  • Reviews

Although reviews for Shrek the Third were mixed and fairly evenly split between positive and negative, virtually everyone agreed that the movie was visually stimulating, mildly comical and continued in the same tradition as the previous films. However, this became a complaint for some, who felt that Shrek the Third didn't offer anything new or go anywhere the previous films hadn't already been.
  • What About the Kids?

Although all the Shrek movies have aimed to be entertaining for the entire family by interspersing kid-friendly gags with some aimed more toward parents, the third installment, some reviewers felt, went too far in its attempt to appeal to the adult audience. Shrek's reluctance to take over as heir to the throne and his apprehension at becoming a father are issues that some believe children may have difficulty relating to.
