Shoot Em Up

The 2007 action-comedy Shoot 'Em Up stars Clive Owen as a drifter who unwittingly takes on an army of kidnappers, armed with nothing but guns and carrots. The film was written and directed by Michael Davis and co-stars Paul Giamatti and Monica Bellucci.

Style

The film includes inside jokes and references to other movies, including the James Bond series. (Clive Owen, who was once considered for the role of Bond, uses Bond's gun, a Walther PPK, only to have it jam up on him.) There are also numerous shots inspired by the Hong Kong action films of John Woo.

Much of the actual physics of the film are impossible, and operate with a kind of cartoon logic. This, coupled with Owen's preference for eating carrots while fighting, seem to reference Looney Tunes, or more specifically the character of Bugs Bunny.
