UK Educational Shock Video
On May 20, 2009, it was reported by a UK web site, that a very shocking video showing a young school girl giving birth has been viewed online by more than 70,000 viewers in one day. This controversial video was used as a weapon in the fight to decrease teenage pregnancies by a UK primary care trust.
The clip was produced and made by NHS Leicester City and it shows a young girl giving birth on a school playground surrounded by her classmates. The clip was titled Teenage Kicks and was developed as part of an ad campaign to discourage youngsters from getting pregnant. It was filmed in a way that a lot of teenagers would recognize as they use their mobile phones to video school fights.
It is attempting to appeal to the younger generation and they are trying to get the message across. It shows a gang of teenagers rushing over towards a crowd of other teens. In the middle of the screaming crowd, a girl on her back on the ground appears to be giving birth with another girl helping her.
The video cuts away and ends with the slogan: "Not what you expected?" succeeded with "Being a teenage parent might not be either." Even though it seemed to be very graphic, the Leicester NHS Trust stated that it was trying to get young people's attention.
