Career Retrospective
MacLaine won a Golden Globe for her very first performance, in The Trouble With Harry, for Best New Star of the Year (actress). She scored her first Oscar nomination in 1958 for the Vincent Minnelli film Some Came Running, in which she starred with Rat Pack members Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. (She later appeared as a cameo in the Rat Pack film Ocean's Eleven.)
MacLaine collaborated twice with director Billy Wilder and actor Jack Lemmon in the 1960s, with The Apartment and Irma la Douce. She was nominated for Best Actress for both films.
She continues to be featured in mainstream comedies to this day, including the big-screen adaptation of the TV series Bewitched, the Graduate update Rumor Has It and the comedy-drama In Her Shoes, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe award. She did a self-parodying cameo in Albert Brooks' comedy Defending Your Life as the host of the Past Lives Pavilion, playing on her close association with New Age beliefs.
