On April 14, 2009, a Colorado woman was arrested for allegedly taping her boyfriend's Shiba Inu dog upside down to a refrigerator. Police say Abby Toll had been arguing with Bryan Beck over Beck's refusal to get rid of "Rex," a two-year-old Shiba Inu. Rex survived the ordeal and was taken to an area animal shelter, where he was expected to be put up for adoption. Toll was charged with felony animal cruelty and drug possession.CBS News: Colo. Health Problems
Shiba Inus are generally healthy and active dogs and do not require a special diet or special trips to the vet (except for vaccinations and teeth cleanings). However, they can have some hereditary conditions such as patellar luxation and eye defects.
