Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, a member of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, was detained in May 2009 in the wake of a videotape that surfaced allegedly showing him torturing a grain merchant from Afghanistan. The videotape surfaced during an April 2009 federal civil lawsuit in Houston, Texas, filed by one of Nahyan's former business partners. The Torture Tape
A graphic videotape allegedly shows Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan torturing an Afghan grain dealer. The video shows a man believed to be the Sheikh repeatedly being shot at and beaten by a wooden board with a nail on it. Salt is then poured into his wounds.
