Chicago's Shedd Aquarium has over 22,000 aquatic animals, including 1,500 species of fish, reptiles and birds. In full operation since 1930, Shedd provides educational programs to patrons, along with its exhibits.

Shedd offers a variety of discounts throughout the year.c

Community Discount Days: admission to the aquarium's original galleries, including Waters of the World, Amazon Rising and the Caribbean Reef, is free of charge 52 days of the year. Admission packages including Wild Reef, Polar Play Zone and Abbott Oceanarium are available at a discounted rate on these days as well. Check the site for specific dates.

Bank of America's Museums on Us Program: this program allows visitors who present valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch ATM, credit or debit cards to receive one free mini-pass on the first fill weekend of every month. This offer is not valid for special events or admission to the 4D theatre, however.

Resident Discount: Chicagoans receive a $3 discount on admission daily, except Community Discount Days, with ID.

Educator Discount: any teacher or educator from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin can visit the aquarium free of charge by registering for a pass online.c Educators outside of these four states can receive $3 off admission by showing a valid school ID or paystub.

Other Discounts: active-duty military personnel, Chicago police officers and firefighters receive discounts with valid IDs at Shedd as well. Students and senior citizens receive a $3 discount every day except Community Discount Days. Corporate member discounts are also available through select employers.c

Great Kids Museum Passports: passes can be found at the Chicago Public Library and are good for the general admission of two adults and two children.

Membership: by becoming a donor or member of the Shedd Aquarium, you are eligible for discounts on programming and free general admission for a year.c
