Shawn Thornton

  • Shawn Thornton is a professional ice hockey player, who currently plays Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League.
  • Early Years

    Thornton began his career with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League in 1995. He was then drafted 190th overall in the 1997 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He spent the next four seasons with the Leafs' American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's Maple Leafs.
  • Recent Career

    On September 30, 2001, Thornton was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he made his NHL debut the following year. He split the next four seasons between the Blackhawks and the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL. On July 14, 2006, Thornton signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Ducks. He was again sent to the minors, playing just 48 games in Anaheim before entering free agency. Thornton then signed with the Boston Bruins, where he finally earned a full roster spot on the team in 2007.
