Shawn Springs

Professional football cornerback Shawn Springs plays in the National Football League for the New England Patriots.

Springs was released by the Washington Redskins on February 27, 2009, saving the team the $8.5 million in salary he was owed for the 2009 season. Prior to playing in the NFL, Springs played college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He redshirted in 1993, then went on to play 37 games with the Buckeyes, recording 152 tackles, six interceptions and one touchdown. His performance was honored with All-Big Ten honors as well as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award in 1996. Springs made his professional debut with the Seahawks in 1997, playing in 10 games his rookie season. He earned his first Pro Bowl selection after his second season, in 1998. Springs played for the Seahawks through 2003. He then signed with the Redskins as a free agent in 2004 and went on to record his statistically best season that year, totaling 64 tackles and six sacks.
