Shaw University

Shaw University is a historically African American college. It is a private university that is affiliated with the Baptist church. The Shaw University Bears are part of the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association athletic conference.

Shaw University was founded in 1865 as the Raleigh Institute. The name would change to the Shaw Collegiate Institute in 1870 and then Shaw University in 1875. Shaw Unviversity.edu: Historical Perspective
