On December 17, 2008, Smith reportedly punched teammate Brady Quinn in the Browns locker room during a practice session. Football Career
Prior to playing in the NFL, Smith played college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the NCAA. He played in 24 games over two seasons with the Gamecocks, recording 49 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.Official Site of the Cleveland Browns: Shaun Smith
After college, Smith signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys on May 1, 2003. After sitting on the Cowboys practice squad, he was waived in 2004, picked up by the Arizona Cardinals and waived again. He joined the New Orleans Saints for his NFL debut, playing in five games before he was waived again and claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals. Smith finished the 2004 season with the Bengals and played two additional seasons with the team before entering free agency in 2007.
