Tokuji Hayakawa created the company with the dream of becoming a company that others want to imitate. In 1912 Tokuji started to pursue this dream with the idea for an adjustable belt buckle. After watching western movies with characters tying belts or having slack at the end, he decided to make a change. This was the first invention for the company and they named this buckle “Tokubijo”.
Since then we have come to know Sharp for a much more sophisticated company who is a top producer of televisions, “smart” phones, blu-ray players, and other home and business products.http://www.sharp-world.com/corporate/info/his/only_one/index.html
Sharp Corporation History
Sharp has had a long timeline that is filled with different technological improvements and innovations. In the early 1900’s they were focused on pencils and belt buckles but by 1930 this had changed. They were the first to produce a Japanese radio, and their direction began to take on a different course. 1953 was the production of the first Japanese television, and marked the companies’ stance among the top electronics producers in the world.
The 60’s were an era of expansion for Sharp; they were mass producing televisions, solar cells and radios, giving them international attention. In the same decade they opened their first U.S. subsidiary in New York City, this subsidiary is what we know today as the Sharp Electronics Corporation. The 70’s and 80’s were a progressive period for the Sharp Corporation; they began the ever growing trend of picture resolution with the first practical use for an LCD screen, by the end of this period they were the leaders in Liquid Crystal Display research and products.
This era also started the corporation’s interest in office technology and more unique individual products. By the end of the 1900’s they were creating waves in the market by introducing early ideas for mobile phones and LCD televisions. Finally in 2007 Mikio Katayama was appointed president of the corporation and since then they have remained among the top producers and researchers of technology in the world.http://www.sharp-world.com/corporate/info/his/h_company/index.html
