  • August 2, 2009: Blood In the Water

The week begins with the true story which inspired the novel Jaws, by Peter Benchley, and subsequently the movie by the same name directed by Steven Spielberg in 1975.

Off the coast of New Jersey in 1916, swimming in the sea had just become popular. Sharks had not encountered human beings before in their feeding habitat, and thus began man's fear of this incredible animal. This was the first multiple shark attack in recorded American history.http://dsc.discovery.com/sharks/programs/2009-program-schedule.html

The Discovery Channel program: Blood in the Water is a recreation of this time in history. Look for a Sneak Preview on the right side of this page.
