What is Sharia?
Sharia means "path" and in a religious context means the path or law of God. The law of sharia is from four sources: The Quran, The Hadith, Ijma, and Qiyas. According to Islamic faith, sharia governs all aspects of life including marriage. While there are five major schools of sharia, the interpretations of the rules are similar. Most Middle Eastern countries operate under sharia. Five major crimes under sharia are: Drinking alcohol, unlawful sexual intercourse, false accusation of sexual intercourse, theft, and highway robbery.Council on Foreign Relations: Islam: Governing Under Sharia
