Death
McConkey was filming for Matchstick Productions and Red Bull in Italy when he attempted a ski-BASE jump off a cliff. In a ski-BASE jump, the athlete skis off a cliff, then removes the skis and deploys a parachute to glide to the ground. McConkey reportedly had equipment problems and was unable to release one of his skis. This caused him to begin to flip and spin, losing control of his parachute. He later died when he hit the ground below.ESPN.com: Shane McConkey, 1969-2009
