Early Life
Shane Courtney Battier was born in Birmingham, Michigan on September 9, 1978, and he went on to attend Detroit Country Day. He continued his education at Duke University. Battier helped the Blue Devils win the NCAA men's basketball tournament in 2001. Pro Career
In his first season with the Grizzlies, Battier started 78 games and averaged 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. After the season, Battier was named to the All-rookie first team. In 2006, Battier was traded to the Houston Rockets for Stromile Swift and Rudy Gay. On September 9, 2008, it was reported that Battier would miss most of the 2008 - 2009 NBA pre-season due to a setback in recovery from an injury to his left foot.
