Career
When he arrived in the United States in 1962, Sergio Aragones claims to have had nothing but $20.00 and a portfolio of his art.Sergio Aragones.com: Sergio Aragones biography He solicited MAD magazine by going to the only person there who might speak the same language, Spy vs Spy creator Antonio Prohias. Prohias spoke even less English, but managed to introduce Aragones to publisher Bill Gaines.Sergio Aragones.com: Sergio Aragones biography Aragones soon began contributing the tiny, wordless cartoons in the margins of the magazine that have become a staple of MAD.
In comic books, Aragones has made his mark as the creator and artist of the Conan the Barbarian parody Groo the Wanderer. Comics and cartoon writer Mark Evanier (Scooby Doo, DNAgents) often writes Groo's dialog, and the letterer for the book is Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai, making Groo the Wanderer an all-star comics collaboration.
