  • NHL Career

    Samsonov began his career in the Russian Super League with the CSKA Moscow in 1994. He was then drafted eighth overall in the 1997 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins. He made his NHL debut that same year and continued on to play nearly eight seasons with the Bruins. Samsonov was then traded to the Edmonton Oilers on March 9, 2006. He completed the season in Edmonton, then entered the free agency, signing with the Montreal Canadiens on July 12, 2006. After one season with the Canadiens, Samsonov was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on June 16, 2007. Most recently, in 2008, Samsonov was waived by the Blackhawks and picked up by the Carolina Hurricanes. He renewed his contract with the Hurricanes on April 16, 2008, worth a reported $7.6 million over three years.
