Tennis star Serena Williams reportedly underwent emergency surgery earlier this week, after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital with a pulmonary embolism. According to "People Magazine," the 29-year-old Williams "underwent emergency treatment" at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011.c 

A rep for Williams told "People" that her client suffered a "hematoma" -- the "result of treatment for a more critical situation" -- a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in the lungs. Serena Williams has taken time off from playing tennis while dealing with an injury -- she hasn't played since her 2010 Wimbledon win.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/03/serena-williams-wins-wimb_n_634682.html  According to Reuters, Williams has been dealing with the aftermath of a cut she sustained on her foot from "broken glass at a restaurant in Germany" in July of 2010. Reuters reports that Williams "has undergone at least two operations on her foot" since then. Serena Williams is a professional women's tennis player. The younger sister of tennis star Venus Williams, Serena has won 12 career Grand Slam titles and 32 singles championships. Serena is currently holding the No.1 position with 9195 points while Dinara Safina being the second with 7600 points. 

Serena continues to hold the No.1 position on women's tennis rankings after winning the Australian Open Tennis final held at Rod Laver Arena against Justine Henin by 6-4 3-6 6-2. This is her 5th Australian Open title, and she won her 12th career Grand Slam title for doing so. This championship enabled Serena to extend her 15th week ranking first. The 2nd and 3rd places are achieved by Dinara Safina and Caroline Wozniacki. Venus Williams was able to get the 5th place.

With 32 singles championships and 12 doubles championships, Serena Williams won the Italian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open all in 2002.
