The Republic of Serbia is located in central Europe. It is a landlocked country bordered by Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In February 2008 it experienced unrest when Kosovo declared its independence from the country. Background
Proceeding the Serbian Revolution in 1817, Serbia emerged as a sovereign country. It quickly expanded its borders to include Kosovo, Vardar Macedonia. The current borders of the country were established following World War II. In 2006, the country reached, again, a sovereign status, which resulted from when Montenegro left the union that was formed after the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1990s.BBC: Serbia
