• Selena was a Mexican American singer that was born in Texas. She began singing when she was six and was in the band Selena y Los Dinos, that was formed by her father. When Selena was 12, she released her first album Mis Primeras Grabaciones from a local record company. The album wasn't sold in any stores and didn't gain much success. The album Selena was her first release by a major record label, EMI Latin. The album was released in 1989 and was fairly successful. The album Dreaming of You was the last studio album that she recorded. It was released on July 18, 1995.

• Selena's Murder

  On March 31, 1995 Selena was killed by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. Saldivar was stealing money from Selena's boutiques and had a fallout with the family. Selena met Saldivar at a hotel and demanded the missing financial papers. As the argument heated, Saldivar drew a gun and shot Selena. She was taken to the hospital where she died from loss of blood at the age of 23. Saldivar is currently serving a life sentence and will not be eligible for parole until 2025.
