  Ellis was born in Chino, California and went to Chino High School. Was selected to attend the University of Southern California in 2003.   Through the 2004-06 seasons, Ellis appeared in 34 games, got 86 tackles with 16 of them for losses. and nine sacks. During the 2006 season he had to miss 3 games after tearing cartilage in his right knee that required arthroscopic surgery.USC Trojans Athletics: Sedrick Ellis

  Going into the 2007 season, he started all 13 games. He played as a nose guard, recording 58 tackles and seven pass breakups. Ellis had fluid on knee, that had to be drained, but didn't seem to stop him.
