Second Life Founders
Two pivotal founders of Second Life are former president Philip Rosedale and former CTO Cory Ondrejka. Each player creates a unique avatar to represent them within the Second Life world. Players can select from a number of physical attributes and accessories. Players can communicate through two different avenues, local chat, and global "instant messaging" (known as IM). Players can move through the world, communicating with one another. The main form of transportation is on foot, however, avatars are able to fly up to 300 meters. Vehicles are also available for avatars, which has created a racing zone for the avatars to gather after creating and customizing their cars. Teleporting is also available for avatars to go to a specific location.Worlds.com
In March 2009, Worlds.com CEO Thom Kidrin claimed that the company planned to sue both Second Life and World of Warcraft in the future. Kidrin says that a scalable virtual world with thousands of users is his company's patented intellectual property. He says that any company which does not enter into licensing negotiations with Worlds.com could expect a lawsuit. NCSoft, developer of City of Heroes and Guild Wars, has already been sued by Worlds for intellectual property violations.Silicon alley Insider: Worlds.com CEO: We're 'Absolutely' Going To Sue Second Life-
About Second Life
Second Life is an online virtual world where people from all over the world can interact with each other. The users, represented by 'avatars' communicate, dance, create, explore, educate, make money and make love.Users of Second Life can buy their own virtual land and develop it in any way they like..
Not only individuals, but also organisations use Second Life. They use Second Life for meetings, marketing and education.
Second Life is one of the most popular massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMORPGs).
Unlike other MMORPGs however, Second Life incorporates it's own currency system that allows users to withdrawal their virtual earning for real world cash. This has helped to create a small virtual economy of merchants, real estate agents and other entrepreneurs.
Second Life was created by Linden Lab.
