The Seattle SuperSonics played in the Northwest Division of the NBA's Western Conference. Sonics owner Clay Bennett moved the team to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma following the 2007-2008 season, where they are now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Sonics were founded in 1967 as Seattle's first major league sports franchise. Of the three major teams in Seattle, the others being the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks, The Sonics are the only ones to win a championship (1979).
