Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Seattle is well known for its rain, which allows for the growth of the large evergreens, where is got the nickname, "Emerald City". It is known as the birthplace of "grunge music", with many popular grunge bands originating there, including Nirvana. There is a perception of high coffee consumption in the area, due to many high-profile coffee companies originating in the area, including Starbucks.

Seattle Earthquake
On the morning of Friday, January 30, 2009, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Seattle area. According to reports, the quake could be felt throughout parts of Washington and as far north as Victoria, British Columbia. The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was centered approximately 14 miles northwest of Seattle.
