Crime-thriller Se7en follows two detectives in search of a serial killer who kills his victims based on the seven deadly sins. The film received mixed reviews at the time of its release, but has since been praised for David Fincher's directorial aplomb and Darius Khondji's cinematography. Editor Richard Francis-Bruce received an Academy Award nomination for Best Editing for his work on the film. Se7en has an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is listed as #33 on the IMDb Top 250.
Beginnings and Endings
Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker credits the time he spent in New York City as a major influence on his writing of Se7en. Fincher and Khondji collaborated on a "bleach bypass" process of photography which makes the dark colors richer on the film stock.
There were several alternative endings written for the film, some of which were shot. An alternate ending involving the brutality of Brad Pitt's character was scrapped as it did not seem to match his previous actions.
