Scuba Diving, the practice of swimming underwater using self-contained breathing equipment, arose during World War II. Scuba divers carry a tank of compressed air, allowing them to stay underwater for extended periods of time.
Scuba diving can be applied for a variety of purposes and falls into several categories including military/naval diving, recreational diving, scientific (research) diving, rescue diving, commercial diving and technical diving.
New diving technologies and techniques are continually being developed, and its applications have exponentially increased human knowledge of underwater life and geography.
