Scottie Pippen is a former NBA small forward. Pippen won six championships with the Chicago Bulls along with teammate Michael Jordan. Pippen was drafted in 1987 to the Chicago Bulls and went on to play for the organization between 1987-1998, and 2003-2004. He retired in 2004, after 17-years in the league.
Born in 1965, Scottie Pippen was a walk-on at the University of Central Arkansas, where he worked as a welder to pay for tuition. After growing in height 6 inches, Pippen was viewed by many NBA scouts as a top prospect. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the first round as the team's fifth pick.
Pippen was apart of the dynasty organization that was 1990s Chicago Bulls. He helped the team win six championships, making it to seven all-star games in the process. He moved around the league before returning to Chicago in 2005 to retire from the NBA. He currently works as an assistant coach to the Los Angeles Lakers, a team coached by his former coach in Chicago, Phil Jackson.
Scottie Pippen Greatest Performance
Scottie Pippen was regarded as a soft player for the most part early in his career with the Chicago Bulls and as a player who did not show up in big games. For example there was game 7 against the Detroit Pistons in 1990 where Pippen only scored two points on 1 of 10 shooting from the field. After the 1989-1990 season, Scottie Pippen would begin to evolve into a complete player. During the following post-season (1990-1991), Scottie Pippen would prove that Chicago was no longer a one-man air show. Scottie would average 21.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.47 steals in 17 playoff game appearances. Scottie Pippen lead the Bulls in both assists and steals and it was his growth as a player that helped the Bulls finally get past the Detroit Pistons in the playoffs as Detroit had eliminated the Bulls from the playoffs for three straight years. There is no question that Jordan is what made this Bulls team go but Pippen coming into his own as a player was a big a reason as any as to why the Bulls defeated the Pistons and would go on to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games in the 1991 Finals
