  • Scott Thornton is a professional hockey player for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League.
  • Early Years

    Thornton began his career with the Belleville Bulls in the Ontario Hockey League in 1987. He was drafted third overall in the 1989 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He continued in the OHL for one season, before making his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs in 1990. Shortly after his rookie season, Thornton was traded to the Edmonton Oilers on September 19, 1991. He split the next three seasons between the Oilers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Cape Breton Oilers. In 1993, Thornton helped the Cape Brenton Oilers win the Calder Cup Championships. He earned a full roster spot on the Edmonton Oilers for the shortened 1994-95 season, playing one additional year with the team. He was then traded to the Montreal Canadiens on September 6, 1996.
  • Recent Years

    Thornton saw his next trade on January 22, 2000, going to the Dallas Stars. He entered free agency after the season and signed with the San Jose Sharks on July 1, 2000. He played a total of five seasons with the Sharks, then signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings on July 1, 2006, to a reported two year, $3 million contract.
