Scott Schoeneweis started his career as a starting pitcher. But his play would reveal himself to be a better situational relief pitcher. In 2002, he would win the World Series with the Anaheim Angels as the team's primary left handed pitcher out of the pen. Since his conversion from starter to relief pitcher he has proven to be excellent against left handed hitters, and effective as a middle reliever.Early Life
Scott David Schoeneweis was born in Long Branch, New Jersey on October 2, 1973. He would attend Lenape High School in New Jersey. He continued his education at Duke University. When Schoeneweis was 19 years old he was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer, he underwent therapy and forced the cancer into remission. He finished his career at Duke as the all-time leader in wins despite undergoing Tommy John Surgery in his Junior season. He was later selected in the third round by the California Angels in the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft.Pro Career
Schoeneweis made his major league debut on April 7, 1999, with the Anaheim Angels. He began his career as a starter, but in 2002 he would struggle and was converted to a reliever. He would be the Angels only left handed reliever in 2002 helping the Angels win the World Series. In 2003, Schoeneweis was traded to the Chicago White Sox for Scott Dunn, Gary Glover , and Tim Bittner. While in Chicago he was used as a starter, but he struggled again in the role. In 2005, he was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a left handed reliever. He established himself as an effective reliever and situational pitcher. He was then traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 2006, then in 2007 he signed a three year deal with the New York Mets for $10.8 Million.Scott Schoeneweis Timeline
