One of the most successful defensemen in the last twenty years of the National Hockey League, Scott Niedermayer is the winner of four Stanley Cup championships and the Norris Trophy for best defenseman in the 2003-2004 season. Joining the Anaheim Ducks in 2005, Niedermayer led to the team to their first ever Stanley Cup victory.
As a Devil
Drafted as the third overall pick in 1991 by the New Jersey Devils, Niedermayer became known for his solid defensive play and agile legs. The Devils won Stanley Cups in 1995, 2000 and 2003. This team was known for their disciplined defensive play, with Niedermayer playing in front of goaltender Martin Brodeur.
As a Duck
Niedermayer signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Ducks in August 2005, partly due to his desire to play with his brother Rob Niedermayer. After winning the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007, Niedermayer announced that he was considering retirement. He returned to the Ducks midway through the 2007-2008 season and played the remainder of the season until the Ducks were ousted by the Dallas Stars in the first round of the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
