  • Retired Canadian professional hockey player Scott Mellanby most recently played for the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League.
  • Early Career

    Mellanby was originally drafted 27th overall in the second round of the 1984 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. Although he signed with the Flyers, he did not join the NHL for two years after the draft to go to college. Mellanby attended and played for the University of Wisconsin for two seasons.
  • Philadelphia Years

    Mellanby made his NHL debut at the end of the 1985-86 season, joining the team for two games. He returned as a full roster member in the 1986-87 season, making his post season debut the same year. The Flyers however lost the Stanley Cup finals to the Edmonton Oilers. He missed much of the 1989-90 season recovering from an off ice incident that left his forearm seriously injured.
  • Edmonton to Florida

    On May 30, 1991 he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he played for just two seasons. In 1993, the Florida Panthers entered the NHL and selected Mellanby as part of the expansion draft. He stayed in Florida for the next eight seasons, playing in the Stanley Cup finals again in the 1995-96 season.
  • St. Louis to Atlanta

    On February 9, 2001, Mellanby was traded to the St. Louis Blues where he played for the next three seasons. Following the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Mellanby signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers, where he was named team captain. After 24 years in the NHL, Mellanby announced his retirement on April 24, 2007.
