Football Career
Prior to playing in the NFL, Kooistra played college football with the NC State Wolfpack in the NCAA. He started in all 32 games during his junior and senior years, helping the Wolfpack defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 2002 Gator Bowl.
Following college, Kooistra was selected 215th overall in the 2003 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He made his professional debut that same year, playing in eight games with the Bengals during the 2003 season. Kooistra continued with the Bengals in the years since, seeing action in offensive and special teams plays. In 2007, he signed a contract extension to stay with the Bengals for an additional three seasons.
