  • Scott Hartnell was drafted sixth overall during the first round of the 2000 National Hockey League entry draft by the Nashville Predators. During training camp for the 2000-2001 season, team officials were so impressed with Hartnell's abilities that they invited him directly onto the team roster. He played 75 games during his rookie year to earn 16 points.

Hartnell played another 75 games the next year and more than doubled his points of the previous season, earning 41 points during the 2001-2002 season. He was invited to play for Team Canada at the 2002 World Championships in Sweden, but could not attend due to an injury.

Hartnell became an integral member of the Predators' lineup until he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2007 off-season. Almost immediately, Hartnell signed a six year contract with the Flyers, worth a reported $25.2 million. On January 8, 2007, Hartnell scored his 100th NHL goal and got his first natural hat trick two days later.
