Scott Gomez

Scott Gomez is a professional hockey player and an All-Star forward for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League. He formerly played for the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, where he won two Stanley Cup Championships. Gomez was the first Latino drafted in the NHL, is one of only a few NHL players born in Alaska, the only other notables being Ty Conklin and Matt Carle.http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.cgi?country=US&province=&state=AK

Prior to joining the NHL, Gomez played for the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League. He was drafted 27th overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils.http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=31170 He joined the Devils in 1999 for a quite successful first season in the league. He played all 82 regular season games, scoring 19 goals and 51 assists and earning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year. Gomez also helped the team win the Stanley Cup Championship in 2000. He continued to be a key part of the Devils' team, assisting the team to another Stanley Cup Championship in 2003. Gomez stayed with the Devils until 2007, when he signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers.

Gomez was traded from the Rangers to the Canadiens on June 30, 2009, with Tom Pyatt and Mike Busto, in exchange for Chris Higgins, Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko.http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4298053

Gomez joined ex-teammate Brian Gionta to ignite the Montreal Canadiens offence. Both players spent time in New Jersey. Gomez had a disappointing season, scoring only 12 goals and 47 assists in 78 games (well below his career best of 33 goals and 51 assists earned in New Jersey in 2005-2006). He had a 4-game point streak from March 4 to March 9. After 13 games in the 2010 playoffs, Gomez has 1 goal and 9 assists.
