Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by an abnormal curve of the spine. The curvature of the spine can be in a variety of directions. Scoliosis is most common during growth spurts in childhood, and can be temporary.

Types of Scoliosis

Idiopathic Scoliosis: The spinal curvature is due to an unknown cause.

Congenital Scoliosis: This form of scoliosis is the result of a malformation of the spine which occurs during pregnancy.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis: Scoliosis is present as a result of the inability to support one's trunk due to a neuromuscular disease such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy.
