He adopted a slow and fluid lyrical style and began focusing on darker themes of violence and sex. His first solo album was released in 1991, after four successful releases from the Geto Boys. He continued to work both as a member of the Geto Boys and as a solo artist. In 2000 he split with Rap A Lot citing creative differences and signed with Def Jam South.
