A remake of a 1932 Howard Hawks film of the same name, Scarface details the rise and fall of Cuban refugee turned gangster, Antonio "Tony" Montana.
Plot Summary
Along with 125,000 other refugees, petty criminal Tony Montana immigrates to Florida in the early 1980s. Brazen and outspoken Montana quickly becomes frustrated with his job as a lowly dishwasher and seizes upon the opportunity to rise through the ranks to become the head of a large and lucrative cocaine cartel. Montana uses increasing amounts of his own product, which exacerbates his paranoia, alienates his loved ones and ultimately leads to his downfall.
The Drug Connection
Oliver Stone wrote the script while himself battling with cocaine addiction. Stone consulted with the Drug Enforcement Agency and Miami police, drawing on accounts of actual crimes and crime scene photos to provide material for the script.
