  • Saws usually consist of a serrated metal blade attached to a wooden handle, with the teeth of the blade pushed and pulled back and forth across wood or another surface with the intention of cutting it into two. Power saws are also available that are typically powered by electricity and used for heavier duty cutting tasks.

  • Saw Sounds

    Handsaws can be used as musical instruments. The blade is stricken so that it vibrates, and the sounds and pitches are then manipulated by bending the steel. The unique high-pitched drone that is produced is a similar sound to that of the theremin.
