The Saudi Human Rights Commission launched a campaign in September of 2008 to end child marriages in Saudi Arabia. The campaign was in response to several marriages of girls younger than 10 being married off to men over age 50 and as old as 70. The committee believes child marriage should be considered the same thing as forced marriage since valid consent has not been given by the bride, who is underage. The Jerusalem Post: Ending Child Marriage in Saudi Arabia (September 10, 2008)
