Sarongs, or pareo, are large, cotton, rectangular wraparounds traditionally tied around the body as a dress or skirt, worn by both women and men of southeast Asia, Pacific islands, and parts of Africa. Often used as a beach cover up.
How to Tie a Sarong for Women
- Wrap the sarong horizontally around the back at bust level, with the loose ends in front.
- Take the two top ends and twist them around each other a couple of times.
- Take the two top ends and tie them behind the neck.
How to Tie a Sarong for Men
- Wrap a horizontal sarong around the back at waist level taking the two upper ends in the hands.
- Tuck one end at the hip while pulling the sarong tightly with the other hand. Roll down where the end was tucked for more stability.
- Wrap and tuck the free end at the other hip and roll it down as well.
- Fold down the the top edge at the front once or twice to secure it.
