  • Alaskan governor and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin joined micro-blogging site Twitter on April 29, 2009, under the username AKGovSarahPalin. Palin's communications director Bill McAllister made the announcement of the governor's debut on the site, which is geared towards correcting media falsities "instantaneously."

    Following the announcement of her official feed, Palin's second tweet was made to point out an error in an Associated Press article, which Palin claims "gravely misquoted her staff" concerning her position on the stimulus package.

    The Drudge Report inaccurately reported that their Twitter account was the first Twitter account followed by Sarah Palin, citing an article by The Daily Telegraph. Palin's account actually displays Newt Gingrich as the first account to be followed.
