Sara Jane Moore

  • Sara Jane Moore attempted to assassinate United States President Gerald Ford on September 22, 1975 outside the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Her attempt came seventeen days after [[ Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme]]'s assassination attempt.

    Moore spent 32 years in prison and was released on parole in 2007. At the age of 80, Moore was a guest on the Today show, on May 28, 2009.MSNBC: Attempted Ford assassin: "I think it was wrong" (May 27, 2009)

    Moore was 40 feet away from Ford when she fired a single shot at him. The bullet missed the President because a bystander, Oliver Sipple grabbed Moore's arm and then pulled her to the ground and stopped her from firing a second time. The shot ricocheted off the entrance to the hotel and injured a bystander. Moore pleaded guilty to attempted assassination and was sentenced to life in prison at the federal women'`s prison in Dublin, California.

    On December 31, 2007, Sara Jane Moore was been paroled after serving 32 years of a life sentence for her attempt to assassinate U.S. President Gerald Ford. Moore has stated that she regrets the assassination attempt, saying she was blinded by her radical political view.
