  • Sapphire Energy, a San Diego based company has announced that they have created an algae based renewable-energy fuel that could be used to power existing cars. The company says that the fuel will be compatible with current refineries, pipelines and automobiles. The substance, nicknamed "green crude" is said to be chemically equivalent to standard gasoline.

    The fuel is made of algae, sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. The company claims the fuel is ultra-clean and the production process could help remove emissions from the atmosphere.
