History
The city of Santa Fe was originally founded and occupied by Native American Pueblos around 1050 to 1150.
Juan Martinez de Montoya established a settlement there in 1607. In 1610 Pedro de Peralta, the third governor of New Mexico, founded Santa Fe in that location and made it the capital of New Mexico. He named the city "La Villa Real de la Santa Fé de San Francisco de Asís", which translates to, "The Royal City of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi."
