Sangria (sangría in spanish) is an alcoholic beverage originally developed in the Iberian Peninsula. The traditional recipe consists of red wine, spices and fruit, brandy, sugar and soda water or seltzer. The most traditional versions are made with rojas wine. Many variations exist that add to or modify the basic ingredients.Commonly sangria is made with red wine, while in Catalonia is created with white or sparkling wines.
Originally this sweet alcoholic beverage was served by the Portuguese peasants who named it sangria from the Portuguese noun sangre that means blood.
