Sanford and Son is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1972 through 1977. The story follows Fred G Sanford (played by Redd Foxx) and his son Lamont (played by Demond Wilson) who run a junk business in Los Angeles. Fred's character tends to be stubborn with a smart mouth and usually ends up in hot water after coming up with a get rich quick scheme. When caught in a lie or in an embarrassing situation, Fred's favorite response was to fake a heart attack, which he would refer to as "the big one." He would grab his chest, look to the sky and speak out to his wife Elizabeth, who passed away sometime before the show began. Lamont, despite being the younger of the pair, tends to be the more responsible character and frequently ends up bailing his father out of trouble.
