Sandy Lyle is a professional golfer and one of the premier Scottish presences in golf since the late 1970s. After turning pro in 1977, he won several Open Championships, most notably the 1988 Masters, hitting a famous bunker shot on the 18th hole.
Lyle is the winner of over a dozen European Tours and several PGA Tours. Though he won both The Open Championship and The Masters in the 1980s, he has failed to plae higher than 16th place in the either the U.S. Open or the PGA Championship. Bunker Shot: Lyle's shot on the 18th hole at Augusta in 1988 is considered one of the most famous shots in professional golfing history. After hitting the fairway bunker, Lyle beat Mark Calcavecchia with a seven-iron shot from the sandtrap and an easy putt.
